Construction News

Hendricks Regional Health is in the midst of its largest expansion project to date. An addition of 205,000 square-feet is being built to the north end of the Danville hospital. The three-story addition will house six state-of-the-art operating rooms, outpatient services, pre-procedure and recovery areas on the first floor; thirty-seven private pre-and-post surgery patient rooms on the second floor; a new cafeteria and central sterile area in the basement, plus unfinished space for future expansion on the third floor. The addition will bring the hospital’s total square footage to just over 789,000 square feet. Scheduled completion date is June, 2010.

Due to the magnitude of the project, access around the north end of the Danville campus is closed to through-traffic and all parking areas on the north and northwest sides of the building are inaccessible. Parking areas on the east and west sides of the hospital are unaffected. Construction updates will be posted periodically. Here is the latest news on this project:

• The tunnel under the main hospital is complete
• Tile work is complete; a final coat of paint is going onto walls.
• Light fixtures are installed
• All major equipment is in place, including built-in equipment in the operating rooms
• Landscaping is underway and a new sculpture called "Children of Peace" has been placed on the slope outside the new cafeteria
• Construction crews have now turned over the building to cleaning crews and the area should be ready for patient use by early July, 2010.
