When a medical emergency happens, you need care that is close, coordinated and focused on you.

Our teams are here to listen, act quickly and guide you through the next step in your care.

We Listen Our physicians, nurses and care teams take time to understand your concerns and answer questions along the way. We Care Every emergency visit is different. Our teams focus on the person in front of them, providing care that is respectful, compassionate and responsive to each patient’s needs. We Work Together From arrival through next steps, our teams coordinate closely so patients and families feel cared for, informed and supported.

Do I Need the Emergency Department?

Use this guide to help determine where to seek care. If you are experiencing severe, sudden or potentially life-threatening symptoms, call 911 or go to the nearest Emergency Department.

Examples may include:

  • Chest pain
  • Broken bone
  • High fever or fever in an infant <90 days old
  • Difficulty speaking
  • Dizziness
  • New shortness of breath
  • Signs of stroke, such as numbness or weakness of limbs
  • Serious head injury or eye injury
  • Sudden loss of consciousness
  • Accidental ingestion of foreign substance or object
  • Severe pain, swelling or immobility in joint or muscle
  • Trouble breathing
  • Uncontrolled bleeding
  • Seizure
  • Sudden, severe headache
  • Severe allergic reaction or attack
  • Severe abdominal pain
  • Vaginal bleeding in pregnancy
  • Head injuries in a person >65 years old

Hendricks Regional Health provides emergency care at its Danville and Brownsburg hospitals.

Other Care Options

For conditions that are not life-threatening, Immediate Care or Primary Care may be more appropriate.

When should I contact my primary care provider?

For prompt treatment when your primary care provider is unavailable and your condition is not life-threatening.

When to visit an Immediate Care Center

Immediate Care may be appropriate for:

  • Severe colds, cough, or flu
  • Severe vomiting or diarrhea
  • Severe ear pain/pressure
  • Migraine headache
  • Treatment of minor allergic reactions or attacks
  • Severe urinary pain
  • Moderate pain, sprains, or swelling, but still able to move or walk
  • Moderate burns, cuts, lacerations, or bites
  • Vaginal discharge or penile discharge; concern for STD
  • Minor rashes
  • Skin infections/Boils/Skin abscesses

Infants younger than 3 months cannot be treated at Hendricks Regional Health Immediate Care Centers.

Immediate Care locations are available in Avon, Brownsburg and Plainfield.

When should I choose Immediate Care?

See your primary provider for routine care, ongoing health needs, less urgent concerns annual physicals. Your primary care provider will also help you care for your chronic medical problems.

When to see your Primary Care provider

  • Checkups or physicals
  • Common illnesses such as cold/flu, sore throat, rash
  • Vaccines and Flu shots
  • Health advice
  • Medication refill/questions
  • Referral to a specialist
  • Routine tests
  • Chronic aches and pain
  • Urinary pain
  • Nausea or diarrhea
  • Minor pain, sprains, or swelling, but still able to move or walk
  • Minor burns, cuts, lacerations, or bites
