Free Help Understanding New Medicaid and HIP Work Requirements

Beginning January 1, 2027, Indiana Medicaid will implement work requirements for certain adults enrolled in the Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP). Eligible members may need to complete qualifying work, education, job training, volunteer activities, or meet income requirements to maintain coverage.

What to Know

  • HIP members may need to work, volunteer or go to school 20 hours per week.
  • Having household income above $580 per month for each HIP member will satisfy the work requirement, regardless of how many hours are worked.
  • FSSA has many possible exemptions for the work requirements.
  • FSSA will look for qualifying work activities up to 90 days prior to the date of application in order to qualify for HIP.
  • Hendricks Regional Health has trained ClaimAid Advocates available to help you report qualifying activities or establish an exemption to the work requirements.
