Further Cancer Resources and Information

The navigator program is designed to help patients and their loved ones cope during the life-changing experience that is cancer.

Doctors use tests like mammography, MRI, and CT scans to help them screen for, diagnose, and treat cancer. If you have cancer, you may have had one or more of these tests.

After your cancer diagnosis, everything in life may suddenly feel out of control. Your initial thoughts may be "How could this have happened to me?" and "How will I get through this?"

Making careful food choices will help support your immune system's fight against cancer. The foods you choose to eat during treatment will vary according to any side effects you may have.

Cancer treatment can cause a number of side effects. Learn how to cope with fatigue, loss of appetite, skin problems, and more.

Patient Education and Support Programs

We partner with the American Cancer Society, Cancer Support Community and Shar's Medical Supply to offer programs for patients to learn and get support. Call 317-456-9080 ext. 11425 to learn more about the resources we offer.

  • Look Good & Feel Great - Teaches women how to better manage the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment. For more information and to register, contact info@sharshair.com or call 317-652-6300.
  • Road to Recovery® - Provides transportation to and from treatment for patients who do not have a ride or are unable to drive themselves.
  • Reach to Recovery® - Breast cancer survivors support current breast cancer patients during their treatment journey.

Complementary Patient Resources

Many of our patients find that complementary care is beneficial during their treatment journey to promote healing and improve quality of life. It is important to talk with your medical team about any complementary care you are receiving, and also to use them as a resource for questions or concerns.

Complementary options at Hendricks Regional Health may include:

Gentle Stretch Yoga

For information and to register, please contact Meaghan at Meaghan@cancersupportindy.org or (317) 650-0740.

This support group is for anyone who has or had any type of cancer diagnosis. View the group flyer for meeting times.

For cancer survivors and their families. Available by appointment. Call (317) 650-0740 to schedule.

The chaplaincy department is available to meet the spiritual and emotional needs of patients and their families throughout their cancer journey.

Eating the right foods during treatment can help patients feel better and stay stronger. Nutrition counseling and support is available to all patients undergoing cancer treatment. Our dietitians work closely with the patient's medical team to identify opportunities for nutritional support. For more information, call (317) 745-3769.

Specially trained dogs help provide a soothing emotional experience that can provide a positive impact for our patients. The canine companions provide compassion and support that families appreciate in times of need.

This comprehensive 16-week weight management course focuses on cognitive behavioral change. Our Registered Dietitians help make changes to establish good habits, break bad ones and overall improve control by making simple changes. For more information, visit Hendricks.org/Lifesteps.

LIVESTRONG helps cancer survivors begin the journey toward recovery by offering adults affected by cancer a safe, supportive environment to participate in physical and social activities focused on strengthening the whole person - not the disease.

Social workers are available to help patients and families cope with the social, emotional and financial concerns related to cancer and to help them obtain the services they will need after discharge. Call (317) 745-3544.
