Each student is welcome to spend as many fourth year rotations with Hendricks as they please, which provides continuity in their learning environment. Time that would have been spent getting oriented with a new hospital system is spent learning the science of medicine and the art of patient care. Their time with us is designed to resemble intern year as closely as safely possible. A feature of our program is the Excursions project that is scheduled each morning before their weekly didactics. Students are assigned to shadow various departments of the hospital including Laboratory, Radiology, Pharmacy, Social Work, Physical Therapy, Respiratory Therapy, Nursing, and more so that they understand the systems required to bring their orders to fruition. A comprehensive understanding of a hospital system is fundamental to a doctor's daily work yet is not included in medical school curriculum. We believe this exposure will give our students an advantage as they navigate residency.
