FAQs for Rehabilitation Services

Whether you're new to our physical therapy services, or you just need a refresher before your next visit, we've answered our most commonly asked questions to help make your experience easy. Feel free to contact our team at (317) 745-3420 for help or more information!

What do I need at my first therapy appointment?

At your first scheduled appointment, you will need to bring with you a driver's license (or photo identification) and a copy of your prescription from your physician. We will have you fill out a patient questionnaire that gives us some information about you and your health history to help us provide better care. This can be completed using your MyChart account. If you are unable to complete this prior to your initial visit, we ask that you plan to arrive 10-15 minutes early for your first appointment to fill them out before you see the therapist. You will want to wear comfortable clothing that will allow the therapist to thoroughly examine the affected body part. We will have patient gowns and shorts available if you need them.

Will I see the same therapist each time?

We believe that achieving optimal health and wellness is done through a collaborative approach between you and your therapist. To that end, we strive to maintain your one-on-one care between you and your therapist that oversees that process.

Will I experience any pain during therapy?

It is the intention of all of our therapists that your therapy experience is done with minimal discomfort. While pain and discomfort may be experienced at times, it should never occur without a clear understanding as to why, and without a means to control it.

Does Hendricks Regional Health accept my insurance?

Hendricks Regional Health accepts most insurance plans. It is important for you to clarify this with your specific insurance company first. As a courtesy to our patients, we will contact your specific insurance provider prior to your first visit to see if we are in your network. If we are not, we will contact you before your first visit. We also provide you with your insurance coverage for therapy as it is explained to us, upon arriving for your first visit.

What if Hendricks Regional Health is not in my network?

If we are not in your network, we will contact you before you attend your first visit. At that time, you can still attend your first visit with the understanding that you might not receive full in-network benefits. Our patient financial services can work with you to set up payment plans or cost-saving measures when you talk to them.

Will Hendricks Regional Health file claims directly with my auto or liability insurance provider after an automobile accident?

Yes, we will file with your auto or liability insurance, and we will also file with your health insurance for your protection. Often, there is no guarantee that your auto or liability insurance will pay, so we will file with your health insurance to ease that burden.

How will a therapist at Hendricks Regional Health decide what I need?

Your first visit will be spent one-on-one with a therapist who will provide a detailed evaluation. In consultation with you, your individual rehabilitation goals will be set, and will be dependent on what you can do and what you want to achieve. The course of therapy will then be spent progressing through a program to reach your therapy goals.

How long will I be at therapy?

Your first visit will be scheduled for an hour to be spent one-on-one with your therapist. Your therapist will review your personal health history with you before completing a thorough evaluation. Upon completion of your evaluation, you and your therapist will discuss your specific goals and set on a course of treatment, which often begins that day.

How long will my follow-up visits be?

Follow-up visits to physical and occupational therapy will be set at whatever time frames and frequency you and your therapist decide are appropriate. On average, a follow-up visit lasts 30 – 45 minutes, but your specific condition, treatment, and plan of care will dictate how long the sessions will last, and the number of visits needed. Constant reassessment by your therapist will determine what changes need to be made to your treatment progression.

How should I expect to feel after therapy?

The goal of our therapists is to have you feeling better when you leave than you did when you first came in. While we can not predict exactly how you will feel, and this is highly dependent on your specific condition, the main goal of each of your therapy visits is to reduce pain and improve your function.

Should I come to therapy on days when I am having a lot of pain?

The main purpose of attending therapy is to relieve pain and improve your overall function. Our therapists will work with you to help control any pain that you are experiencing. If you have questions regarding your pain and whether or not to attend a specific appointment, please do not hesitate to call your therapist to discuss your symptoms.

What will I do when I am finished with therapy?

If you have been discharged from therapy, then hopefully you have met your goals and returned to an improved level of function. While you may be finished with the formal visits to our clinic, it is our goal that you have all the tools you need to continue to improve and prevent any further complications. Before you leave therapy, you and your therapist will discuss a plan to continue with after you leave to ensure that you can achieve the best possible outcomes.
