Cancer Registry

The Cancer Registry at Hendricks Regional Health, and those that serve in this role across the nation, provide critical data to public health officials and researchers in the fight against cancer. The information collected and submitted offers essential information to researchers, healthcare providers, and public health officials to better monitor and advance cancer treatments, conduct research, and improve cancer prevention and screening programs.

Under guidelines from the Indiana State Department of Health, treatment, staging and follow up data has consistently been collected at Hendricks Regional Health since January 2000. Through collaboration with the Cancer Registry and the Cancer Care Committee, Hendricks has worked diligently to become an accredited cancer care program, thru the American College of Surgeons (Commission on Cancer) and has maintained this accreditation status since May 2005. We have also maintained accreditation status with the National Accreditation of Primary Breast Programs since May of 2011. As part of the approval process with the American College of Surgeons, our cancer registry data is submitted on an annual basis to the National Cancer Data Base.

Currently the cancer registry team includes two Certified Tumor Registrars and a follow-up specialist that collaborate with every department in the hospital, as well as physician offices and other health care facilities to gather/assimilate data on our patients within our cancer care program. The registry staff initiates data collection from the time of their diagnosis, abstracts staging information, follows all treatment courses, and continues annual follow-up.
