The YMCA staff mentioned I get two free dietitian appointments with my membership. What exactly does a dietitian do and how can I get started?

Our registered dietitians are health care professionals with extensive nutrition education and expertise. They work closely with you and your doctor to help you meet your health goals, whether that is losing weight, lowering your heart disease risk, or just improving your overall health. Primarily, they focus on teaching patients how to gain better health through optimal nutrition. Here's how to use your free visits: go to the main desk and ask to speak with a wellness coach on the YMCA staff. The wellness coach can check for available dietitian appointments and get you scheduled. Top »

What does a clinical health nurse do, and who should sign up for clinical health management services?

Clinical health nurses are registered nurses that work with you to create a personal wellness plan - and give you support and accountability to help you succeed. Signing up for a consultation with a clinical health nurse is recommended if you have been diagnosed with high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol levels, or a chronic disease like diabetes. You also may benefit if your doctor has prescribed healthy lifestyle changes such as weight loss. Coaching sessions are about 30 minutes and can be done in person or even over the phone. A physician's order is not required. Call (317) 718-2956 to schedule. There is no cost for this service. Top »
