Hendricks Regional Health President & CEO Kevin Speer Receives Distinguished Eagle Scout Award

Sunday, June 15, 2014

Danville - Kevin Speer, president & CEO of Hendricks Regional Health, was recently honored by the National Eagle Scout Association and presented with the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award. The award was established in 1969 to acknowledge Eagle Scouts who have received extraordinary national-level recognition, fame or eminence within their field, and have a strong record of voluntary service to their community. Only scouts who earned the Eagle Scout rank a minimum of 25 years ago are eligible for nomination.

At age 17, Speer received his Eagle Scout rank by remodeling classrooms at his church. The church had purchased a historic home and Speer’s task was to make former living areas into classrooms. Over the course of three or four months, and with help from his father and other scouts, Speer replaced doors, ceilings and more to transform the space into suitable Sunday school classrooms.

Speer joins a prestigious list of Distinguished Eagle Scout Award winners from Indiana, including Senator Richard Lugar, Governor Frank O’Bannon, Judge Randall Shepard and more.

Speer has been the president & CEO of Hendricks Regional Health since November, 2012. He is also the Executive Vice President of the Indiana Academy of Family Physicians where he oversees that organization and acts as the principal spokesperson for the Academy and its 1,800 members. Prior to his current role at Hendricks Regional Health, Speer was the System Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer for St. Vincent Health and a partner at Hall, Render, Killian, Heath & Lyman, a law firm specializing in health care law. Speer is a graduate of Purdue University and Valparaiso University School of Law.
