STOP Pediatric Weight Management Program Orientation STOP is a 12-week pediatric weight management program designed for children who are overweight or at risk for becoming overweight. STOP uses a family-based approach to promote healthy behaviors. STOP has a goal of providing education, tools and parenting techniques the whole family can use as they collectively work towards a healthier life. Hendricks Regional Health registered dietitians and YMCA wellness coaches work with families and provide new information each week about nutrition and exercise. A journal will be provided to parents so they can track their child's meals and physical activity. Program staff will review the journals and give recommendations for improved nutrition and activity goals. The curriculum focuses on how to help children and their families make permanent lifestyle changes by improving food choices, modifying eating behaviors and engaging in more physical activity. Lab draws performed at the beginning and end of the program will provide measurable clinical outcomes. Parents attending with their child will also be offered a complimentary lab draw. Labs will include a fasting blood glucose, lipid panel (includes cholesterol, HDL and LDL) and an insulin level. The goal of STOP Putting on Pounds is to provide education, tools and parenting techniques the whole family can use as they collectively work towards a healthier life. Some children will lose weight, but the important goal is to provide the lifelong skills that will foster improved eating and activity habits. Program cost is $204 per family ($17.50/week). For families with a YMCA membership, the cost is $153 per family ($12.75/week). Financial assistance may be available. If you need financial assistance, please call (317)745-3769. Wednesday, July 30th, 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 6th, 5:30 p.m. There is no cost to attend the orientation session, but registration is required.
