Chief Operating Officer

Shane Sommers

Shane Sommers is a graduate of the University of Indianapolis and Duke University, with undergraduate degrees in biology and chemistry, and a master’s degree in physical therapy. He is a board-certified specialist in orthopedic physical therapy. Shane first joined Hendricks Regional Health in 1999 as a senior staff therapist. In 2008, he became the director of sports medicine, orthopedics, rehabilitative services and wound care. His leadership role was further elevated in 2014 to executive director of professional services, and then in 2019 to vice president. He was named Chief Operating Officer in October 2023.

Shane is committed to supporting his community through volunteerism and has a passion for working with education and health advocacy organizations. He serves as an advisory board member of the Hendricks Regional Health YMCA, as well as a board member of both the Avon Education Foundation and Hendricks County Community Foundation. Additionally, Shane sits on the Washington Township Board and is a volunteer with the American Cancer Society and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. He is a graduate of the Leadership Hendricks County Class of 2009.

In addition, Shane has held numerous leadership positions within community organizations, including chapter president of the Indiana Physical Therapy Association, board president of Leadership Hendricks County, board president of the Avon Education Foundation, and co-chair of the inaugural Hendricks County Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event at the Hendricks Regional Health YMCA.

In 2014, Shane was recognized with the Hendricks Regional Health YMCA Cause-Driven Award for his contributions and support. More recently, Shane was named the Leadership Hendricks County 2018 Leader of the Year for his outstanding efforts to lead by example and enable success by serving as a collaborator, a facilitator, a peacemaker and a visionary.

Most important to Shane, though, is his role as a husband and father. Shane currently lives in Avon with his wife, Jayda, and two children, Nick and Natalie.
