Patient Satisfaction

Patient Satisfaction

At Hendricks Regional Health, our core philosophy is to “Treat people better.” To ensure we are living up to this promise, we ask our patients for feedback about the care they receive. We provide this information to help consumers make an informed choice about the hospital they select for care. Hendricks Regional Health along with hospitals nationwide participates in the government’s patient satisfaction survey program, Hospital Consumer Assessment of Hospital Providers Survey (HCAHPS). The annual survey was designed by the Federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to give consumers a way to compare patient satisfaction scores for different hospitals in their community. Here is how patients at Hendricks Regional Health rated their overall satisfaction during the period October 2008 to September 2009 compared to state and national averages:

Overall Rating on a Scale of 0 through 10 (0=worst possible hospital and 10=best possible hospital)

The survey asks patients to answer questions about their experiences in the hospital, including how well doctors and nurses communicated with them, how clean their rooms were and if their pain was well controlled.

Hendricks Regional Health also conducts more frequent surveys to find out how we are doing in areas such as such as cleanliness, attentiveness of staff, noise levels, pain management, call button response time, and explanation of medication side effects. Patients are encouraged to use our on-site survey system to tell us what they think of their care while they are still in the hospital. Patients are also randomly selected to participate in telephone surveys after they leave the hospital or physician’s practice. These survey scores are constantly evaluated to identify problems and implement improvements more quickly.
